Innovative and interdisciplinary

The research carried out at the Department of Chemistry is unique in virtue of its diversity, interdisciplinarity, and collegiality. Our areas of emphasis are polymers, biomolecules, structured colloidal materials, functional catalysis design, and novel natural substance synthesis.

We have also earned an international reputation for developing the method of spectroscopic structure analysis. Our interdisciplinary orientation is manifested in large cooperative projects such as SFB 1585 (Structured functional materials for multiple transport in nanoscale confinements) and the way expertise is bundled in Key Labs and our various research centres.

You can find out more about our research activities on the homepages of the focus areas and our various working groups.
